Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, born in Paris France of British parents Jacqueline Luesby Watson and Chris Watson both attorneys. As a child, she went to her school, the Dragon School in Oxfordshire. Emma was just six when she made the decision to pursue a career as an actress. She trained for several years at Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a Part-time theatre school located in Oxford in which she learned acting as well as singing. When she was ten, she had performed and taken part in many Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the 2001 adaptation to J.K. Rowling's bestselling British book began in 1999. Emma was discovered by casting agents through Emma's Oxford theatre instructor. David Heyman announced to Emma that after eight consecutive auditions, she and Rupert Grint were chosen as Hermione and Harry Potter. Emma's debut on screen took place with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone's premiere in 2001. It was the year's top grossing film, breaking records at the opening and the very first weekend. The critics were impressed by the film and its performance. The Daily Telegraph praised Emma for her outstanding performance. Emma received the Young Artist Award as the Leading Young Actress for the Feature Film. The actress was recognized five times in recognition of her part in the film.
